Class #33 – Mary Lou

This basket makes a fabulous tote or catchall. Students will learn how to make a solid woven base so items will not fall out. Three rows of 1/2” flat reed gets it upright. The sides are then chase woven in a continuous weave, which will be demonstrated. The corners are not creased, creating pouched out sides. The top is finished with a 3 rod-wale, which will also be demonstrated. Before lashing with cane, students will learn how to make a handle using only reed. The handle is wrapped in a pretty cane design, which will be demonstrated.

Tools needed

Usual basket tools including a spoke weight (very important for base!), small & large clips, packers, needle nose pliers, angle cutters, scissors, scrapers, cutting board, measuring tape, electrical ties, spray bottle, water bucket, and any other tools the student may find helpful.
