Class #44 – Soft Rush Basket

This basket starts with a 4 x 4 grid of soft rush spokes (Juncus effusus) and the weavers are a thinner soft rush and will be twined over the spokes. Embellishments of colored hemo or sari sild will be twined into the side of the basket and the rim will be braided.

Techniques including twining, 3 rod wale, cording, and shaping the basket as it increases then decreases in size. Students will learn to add spokes into the corners to increase the diameter of their basket. They will also learn to braid a rim.
