Class #5 – Carolina Oval Carrier

Students will construct this traditional oval basket with a mixture of flat spokes and round and flat weavers. Techniques included will be: laying out a base, chase weaving on and even number of spokes, and bye-staking. The sides have alternate bands of flat and round weavers with a choice of natural or dyed bands. The basket is finished with a hardwood or leather handle, rattan rims, and lashing as well as a top rod secured with figure eight lashing. This is one of the sturdiest baskets you will ever make!
