Class #55 – Treasure

Starting with a 5” x 8” wooden base, students will insert flat reed spokes according to a template given by the instructor. Students will do three rod-wale around the base in natural and dyed round reed. Step-ups will be reviewed. A chain stitch in 2 colors of round reed adds interest. Part of the sides are done in French randing, using dyed flat oval and natural colored round reed. The upper section of the basket has an interesting weave in 2 sizes of flat oval, similar to the Japanese wave weave, and this technique will be demonstrated. Rim has an optional overlay and standard lashing. Students should be proficient in three rod-wale. The instructor will bring kits in several colors.
