Class #17 – Pine Needle Honey Pot (2 Days)

Participants will be provided a wooden bowl, natural long-leaf pine needles, and waxed Jupean thread to make the basket. Beginners will learn to keep tight tension in the stitches, so the simple spiral stitch is properly aligned. Experienced weavers may be challenged to try the spiral wheat stitch. All coilers will learn to angle the sewing needle, allowing shaping of the basket to create a lip. The lid requires participants to start a coil without using a base and angle the sewing needles to create a dome topped with a walnut shell slice. Embellishments are optional, and materials (charms, raffia, leather) will be provided.
